David Strathairn

David Strathairn’s many theater credits are highlighted by the American premiere of Vaclav Havel’s Leaving at the Wilma in Philadelphia, and Tom Stoppard and Andre Previn’s Every Good Boy Does Fine at the Kimmel Center with the Philadelphia Orchestra; Scorched, The Tempest, and Underneath the Lintel, all directed by Carey Perloff at ACT/San Francisco; Strindberg’s Ghosts at Seattle Rep; Harold Pinter’s The Birthday Party, CSC/NY; and most recently Off by One at Peoples Light and Theater in Malvern, PA. 

For ten years, beginning at Georgetown University in 2014, he toured Remember This: The Lesson of Jan Karski throughout the US, to the UK, Spain, and finally Poland. The story of the man, a courier for both the Polish and Jewish Undergrounds, who was the first to deliver eye-witness reports of the Holocaust to the West in 1943. 

Since its inception in 2009, Mr. Strathairn has also been an active member of the ensemble of Theater of War Productions, a social impact company that presents dramatic readings of classic plays to communally confront critical social issues with the intention of fostering empathy and compassion, and a deeper understanding of the complex issues facing us all.  

His work in film includes several films by John Sayles: Matewan, Eight Men Out, Limbo, and City of Hope among them; Good Night and Good Luck; Nomadland; Sneakers; Lincoln; Nightmare Alley; and A Little Prayer.
